Mission Statement

The mission of the Luna Pier Flood and Erosion Protection Committee, is to review past history on floods, surveys, actions recommended and taken, then prepare and prioritize a comprehensive list of flood and erosion protection issues for recommendation of action to City Council.

Flood & Erosion Vision Statement Minimize

 

 Vision Statement

A pleasant and safe city and waterfront experience for every resident and visitor. 
  • Protection for person and property from the fierce waters of the Northeast winds and heavy rains.
  • Regular maintenance schedules for the City’s water pumps, concrete retainer walls/cylinders, earthen dikes, flood gates, shoreline erosion, canals and creeks. Maintain permits for regular dredging.  
  • A safe community with no tripping or falling hazards or erosion of the support materials of our dike areas or natural growth that threatens the stability of our dikes (concrete and earthen).
  • Regular walks of our dikes to observe any improvements or problems with our dikes, shoreline erosion or safety issues.
  • Bi-annual inspection of maintenance logs, permits.
  • Develop a good, respectful working relationship with governmental agencies such as the Corps of Engineers, MEDEQ, USDA etc.
  • Work closely with the City Administer, City Council, and Mayor to ensure the City is taking action on requested concerns and recommendations.
  • Have citizens of Luna Pier work with the City in identifying flood, safety and erosion concerns and maintain their property.
  • Work with our Administrator to continue to seek Federal and State grants and loans.
  • Desire to create a City local ordinance on protection of and integrity of our dike systems.
